From Swim Laps to Laugh Lines

My favorite hobby is stand-up comedy—because I needed something to put on my resume besides “professional over-thinker.” In the last 10 years, I’ve been on stage doing stand-up comedy a few dozen times—because, you know, “A few dozen” sounds way more impressive than “at comedy school (yea, it’s a thing), a boatload of open mics, and charity events where the audience is more interested in their dry chicken than my punchlines.

One time, I made $50 for being the host at a real Comedy Club, which means, according to my calculations, I was once a professional comic... sort of. Stand-up is my favorite form of entertainment to watch—there's just something about watching someone make people laugh without the need for swim goggles. It’s scarier than swimming with sharks, but I love the challenge as a late life newbie. In another life, this might’ve been my path... but for now, I’ll just keep splashing around between laps and laughs and telling people to put down the steroid creams!
